Recently, I have been exploring ephemeral forms of curating that don’t take place in an exhibition space. It can be a residency, a happening, a party. I’m especially fond of “eventualities”: short, intimate and spontaneous events, that don’t need an audience, a space, an invitation or an email reminder.
surrealists everywhere!
surrealists everywhere! is my first collaboration with curator Mariko Mikame. We call ourselves the flying curators and develop nomadic exhibition concepts. The starting point of surrealists everywhere! is a Japanese game, Shiritori, by which Mariko and I shared anecdotes about Belgian and Japanese surrealisms. We then invited artists, curators, authors, musicians, etc. to participate in the game by responding with mail. The project was celebrated in the form of a party at The Rooftop Gallery in Padua on October 27, 2024. Follow us @surrealistseverywhere!
Das Ort der Witterungen
In May 2024, the residence Das Ort der Witterungen (The Place of Weatherings) with artists Lucie Strecker and Helga Franza took place at Magazin Macura, an Archive for Artistic Practices at the river bank of the Danube in Stari Banovci, Serbia. With a temporary exhibition we opened the season. The first edition of the residency took place in Spring 2023, when I organised a month long residency in two parts: one residency on archives and volcanoes with the artists Lucie and Helga, and a follow-up residency with a Call for Archives: Survival Kit at Zeta Center for Contemporary Art in Tirana, Albania, with the platform minìsae.
The House of The Deadly Doris
From 2009 till 2022, I was the director of the project space The House of The Deadly Doris in Berlin. Eventualities were central to the project space. Having a conversation and a cup of coffee at the big table in The House was part of program. For The House of The Deadly Doris I created a travelling exhibition in a box. It turned out that the complete work of The Deadly Doris, although covering multiple media, fits easily in a transport crate of 510 x 445 cm. It can be shown in both small and big spaces. The exhibition can take on tiny or gigantic dimensions. It did so for the first time during the Transit film festival in Regensburg in November 2023. M.B. Memorial Birthday Parties
I collaborated on a few M.B. Memorial Birthday Parties organised by Michal B. Ron, art historian and Marcel Broodhaers expert. The first one was in 2021, with a whipped cream hat from the artist Daniel Chluba. In 2022 and 2023 we published pamphlets at AAAAA PPPPP Publishing. In summer 2023, we celebrated a M.B. halb Memorial Birthday Party at the the library of the Freie Universität Berlin, also featured by AAAAA PPPPP Publishing.

In 2015, I was invited by the curatorial collective insitu to collaborate on Framework 6: parallelisms, which consisted of 2 exhibitions taking place consecutively and both featuring works by the three same artists: Eli Cortiñas, Ingo Mittelstaedt and Sam Smith. I did an experiment in what I like to call “literary curating”.
